![]() If you have an older computer with a version of AirPort Utility earlier than 6.0, you can administer it that way as well.Įxtending this thread, but I recently switched over from a Cisco router with a couple of access points, to a new Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem in the basement and a new Airport Express acting as an access point (not simply a wireless extender) on my second floor. It is only the package installer that is the problem. If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist. The most recent version of AirPort Utility included with Mountain Lion should be used to configure 802.11n - capable AirPort Base Stations, and should not be deleted. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist. ![]() Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.Ĭlick the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app: dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.ĭirections for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar): You simply need to extract the app from the installer package using a package extractor like Pacifist or unpkg. The problem with that version is that Mountain Lion will refuse to let you install it. exceedingly easy. You need AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure an older Express. you will need to setup the AE as the main router I presume.Īnd select WAP mode for the Asus. If you would prefer to do it according to your point 2. ie.īut it will create a wireless network of the same name and same security as the asus. (you can use single password or different password for admin access. Use the same password as the Asus wireless. which in this case means wireless to the same as the ASUS ssid. (with slightly different look in Yosemite). the utility should suggest it will create a network. Plug the AE WAN port into the Asus LAN port (any of them will do).ģ. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. press it so you feel it just click and no more. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall. Your attempt to setup by extend wireless will not work. generally the Asus is rated as very good to excellent. I am surprised your Asus has worse performance than old Linksys. Thank you in advance for any assistance/guidance/opinions. Least preferred option but think I still can. Send Asus back and get 2nd AE, and never look back. Swap Asus and AE to make AE primary router and Asus the access point?ģ. Try another method to join current Asus wifi network?Ģ. We are modest users with 10-20 wired and wireless devices. So all you networking experts out there (not me for sure), what should I do? I literally wish to set this up and never think about it again for three years until something breaks. It found the network but the little wheel just kept spinning.nothing happened. I then tried "configure other", entered the Asus SSID login and password. Using the Airport Utility on my Mac laptop, Selected "extend existing network" and it only found my neighbors "base stations", presumably their Apple wifi. I have now purchased an AE and tried to set it up this evening, wired into the Asus router. (Even though we use all Apple products in our house, it never occurred to me to purchase an AE in the first place. So my IT at work suggested I get an Airport Extreme as an access point. My old Linksys router was having issues so I purchased an Asus RT-AC68U router to replace it. Looking for any advice on the following wifi router question(s)
